Testimonials From The Track

Thinking of coming to one of our sessions? Found out below what our participants, trackside supporters, volunteers and cycle instructors think about our Inclusive Cycling

Ross – Participant

Ross

I feel comfortable here at the EcoLocal Cycling sessions. It’s nice to meet new people and everyone is friendly. I like cycling the two-wheel bikes around the track and I enjoy exercising outside. It gets my heart rate up! I also like helping to bring the bikes out and put them away. This is one of my regular activities as well as volunteering at a local day centre.

Carolyn – Participant

Carolyn

I enjoy coming to EcoLocal Cycling sessions with my friend Linda as well as going to fitness classes and doing indoor horse riding. I used to ride my own bicycle but gave it up when it became too stressful dealing with traffic. I love cycling here because it’s relaxing, I’m out in the fresh air and I feel safe. I can get anxious so it’s nice to be surrounded by friendly people who can help me if I need it. They really put themselves out to make sure I am comfortable on the different cycles. Coming here gives me something else to think about and really helps my mental wellbeing.

Andrew – Trackside Supporter

Andrew

I am a trackside supporter for EcoLocal Cycling and come here with my dad Mike. I help take the cycles out and put them at the start and end of sessions, and I help people to get comfortable on the cycles. I have learnt about the many different types of cycles there are. I love to cycle around the track as well as helping out trackside.

John – Volunteer

John

I am retired and wanted to do something useful that involved cycling. I wanted to get involved with EcoLocal Cycling because the emphasis is on people and everyone is very nice to spend time with. It’s great to see people having fun and being free. Everyone can do their own thing but it’s also a well-organized, safe environment. Volunteering here has taught me how people cope with difficulties. They might have a health problem or a learning disability but they can still do so much. It’s great to see everyone looking so happy – sometimes people might not look very cheerful when they arrive but they always leave with smiles on their faces!

Angela – Cycle Instructor

I have been a cycle instructor with EcoLocal Cycling since 2010. I started because I love cycling and helping people so it combines the two. I like the friendly atmosphere and seeing people gaining independence. Almost everyone can ride some sort of cycle, whatever their ability. Everybody is unique and someone who may have a learning difficulty may be physically very able and vice versa. One of my favourite experiences is hearing one of our regular cyclists Maureen bursting into song as she goes around the track because she’s enjoying herself so much. I also enjoy the hot cups of tea when we’re here in the winter!

I have been a cycle instructor with EcoLocal Cycling since 2011. I love the community feel at our cycle sessions, and offering people the opportunity to socialise and get some exercise. I also enjoy doing outreach events. For example, we were invited by one of our participants to bring our cycles to an event for people with multiple sclerosis. She uses one of our handcycles and has written about her experience for a newsletter. It’s great to give more people the opportunity to try our range of cycles.
