Cycling in Sutton and Merton

Gear-Up Inclusive Cycling

EcoLocal’s Inclusive Cycling project offers cycling to everyone in a safe and supportive off road place…..whether it is on two, three or four wheels! The 'Gear-Up cycling sessions are inclusive so we welcome all abilities. We have a wide range of cycles so that people of all abilities have the opportunity to learn and enjoy the benefits of cycling and getting healthy exercise! Many of our cycles are accessible for peopel with disabilities. Our friendly cycle instructors will help you take it at your own pace and there are opportunities to get involved in socialising and helping with sessions - why not ask about helping out as a 'trackside supporter'.

Sessions are held most Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at the Arena 10am-12noon (we prefer groups to come after 11am) . Click here to find out where our cycling sessions run.

Our range of cycles

Our adapted cycles and two wheelers enable everyone (aged 16+) to have a go – including people with disabilities, those recovering from injury or may otherwise have difficulty in participating in cycling. Our cycle instructors will help you select the cycle that is right for you.

The Duet

The Duet: This bike is suitable for wheelchair users and those with restricted mobility. The participant can sit at the front and carers or relatives can cycle at the back. We usually have two of these at our sessions in yellow and green.

Velo Plus

The Velo Plus:  This cycle enables participants using a wheelchair who find it difficult to transfer out of their wheelchair to take part.  The wheelchair can be rolled on to the cycle’s platform and locked in place.

Side by sides

Side by side

The Side by Side: This cycle enables two participants to cycle around the track together. Some side by sides allow one participant to steer and cycle, with the other being a passenger. Other side by sides allow both participants to steer and cycle.

The Trike: We have a wide range of trikes, some with seats, some with saddles, some built for speed, others for comfort. These are ideal for those who do not feel steady on a two wheeler or just like to cycle in comfort!

hand cycle recumbent

The Handcycle: The bike is perfect for those that have limited mobility or weaknesses in the lower half of their body or if you just fancy working out those arms!

The Tag Along

The Tag Along: This enables a participant to steer and guide another behind them. This builds confidence to lead to using a bike independently or for those who wish to cycle with someone else.

Go Karts and KMX

Go Karts and KMX: For the more adventurous among you who wish to try something unusual, we also have a range of bikes that you may not have tried before. The Go Karts are 4 wheeled and very stable, but quite fun to ride. The KMXs are low to the ground, quite sporty and provides a different cycling experience – well worth a go!
